Key NPCs: Mama Rosie, Lord Aldric, Jasper (apprentice wizard)
Estimated Duration: 45-60 minutes
Best Festival Tie-in: The Friendship Feast Festival

The heroes arrive in Brightwater Keep to witness a peculiar sight: freshly baked pies float gracefully through the air at head height, followed by bobbing bread loaves and soaring roasted chickens! From The Laughing Dragon Inn, Mama Rosie calls out in frustration.

"My pies! Come back, my beautiful pies!" she shouts, reaching helplessly toward her floating baked goods.

All the floating food seems to be moving toward Castle Brightwater on the hill, creating a magical sky parade of delicious items.

A 10-year-old apprentice wizard named Jasper has been accidentally casting "floating food" spells instead of "finding food" spells. He's been too shy and nervous to ask for meals at the castle, trying to survive on scraps. His hunger and emotional distress have made his accidental magic much more powerful than intended, pulling food from all over the city.

Following the floating food trail through the city and castle, heroes discover:

  • Food flows through castle hallways like an aerial river
  • All the food heads toward the scholar's tower
  • Mama Rosie and merchants are missing their prepared food
  • Even Lord Aldric is mystified by the phenomenon

In a tower room, heroes find a magnificent floating feast arranged in mid-air, with young Jasper sitting in the center looking amazed and terrified. He immediately apologizes and explains:

  • He's from a poor family and is new to the castle
  • He's been too scared to ask for meals, thinking he'd be a burden
  • He tried to cast "finding food" spells but kept saying the wrong words
  • Every time he feels hungry, he accidentally casts the spell again

Heroes help Jasper in two ways:

Building Confidence:

  • Help him understand that asking for food is normal and expected
  • Practice introducing himself and asking politely for meals
  • Show him everyone in the castle is kind and wants to help

Fixing the Magic:

  • Sage Cornelius teaches the correct spell pronunciation
  • Create a simple rhyme to remember: "When you're hungry, here's the key: 'Invenire' finds food for me!"
  • Practice until he can cast the finding spell instead of the floating spell

As Jasper gains confidence and learns the correct spell, the floating food gently settles down. Lord Aldric officially welcomes Jasper with a proper ceremony, and Mama Rosie promises to pack him lunch every day.

All the returned food is combined into a massive feast for the whole community, with Jasper sitting at the high table with Lord Aldric and the heroes. The "accident" becomes the inspiration for a new castle tradition of weekly community meals.

  • Captain Tomas can lead heroes through the castle following the food trail
  • Mama Rosie arrives to offer motherly comfort and food to Jasper
  • Lord Aldric shares how he felt nervous when he first became lord
  • Sage Cornelius explains that magical mistakes happen to all apprentices
  • A magical "Friendship Spoon" that always finds the most delicious bite on any plate
  • Invitation to join castle meals anytime heroes visit
  • Jasper's eternal gratitude and friendship
  • Jasper becomes the castle's official "Meal Coordinator" to help ensure no one goes hungry
  • Focus on themes of belonging, asking for help, and community support
  • Jasper isn't a problem to be solved - he's a new friend who needs encouragement
  • The magic responds to emotions, showing how feeling welcome fixes the real problem
  • This teaches that shy or new people often just need someone to include them
  • The celebration shows how mistakes can lead to wonderful new traditions
