Estimated Duration: 45-60 minutes
Best Festival Tie-in: The Great Flower Awakening
Setup and Hook
The heroes are traveling along the main path between Brightwater Keep and Millbrook Village when they notice something unusual blocking their way ahead. What looks like a small hill covered in wild grass and flowers is actually moving up and down very slowly - breathing!
As they get closer, they realize it's Gentle Gus, the friendly giant, lying fast asleep right in the middle of the Sunflower Fields. His enormous body stretches across the main path, and his loud snoring is causing the nearby sunflowers to sway back and forth like they're dancing to a very slow song.
A small crowd of worried villagers has gathered at a safe distance. A little girl named Rosie tugs on the heroes' clothes and says with big, worried eyes, "Please help us! Big Gus has been sleeping for three whole days! My grandma lives in Millbrook and she's expecting me for tea today, but we can't get past him. And look - he keeps tossing and turning like he's having bad dreams!"
The Mystery/Problem
When heroes examine Gentle Gus more closely, they notice he's mumbling in his sleep about being "too small" and "can't reach the pretty ones." His giant hands are covered in soil, and there are small flower petals stuck to his clothes.
Ranger Dana arrives and explains: "Poor Gus has been trying to tend a garden, but everything he plants is too small for him to care for properly. He's been losing sleep worrying about his tiny flowers, and now he's so exhausted he can't wake up!"
The Adventure
Step 1: Understanding Gus's Problem
The concerned villagers share what they've observed:
Old Henrik the Merchant: "I've known Gus for twenty years - he's the gentlest soul in the kingdom. He usually sleeps in the meadow by the Old Watchtower, never here in the fields. Something's troubling our big friend."
Martha the Baker: "He keeps mumbling in his sleep - something about 'lost' and 'can't find' and 'too small.' Poor dear sounds so sad even while sleeping!"
Young Tim the Farm Boy: "I tried calling his name really loud, but Gus just rolled over and his snoring got even louder! The sunflowers look dizzy from all the wind!"
Gus's Sleep-Talking Reveals:
- "The little daisies... can't see them..."
- "My big fingers... too clumsy..."
- "Want to help them grow... but I'm too big..."
- "Pretty garden... but everything's so tiny..."
Step 2: Finding Gus's Garden
Following the trail of flower petals and disturbed earth, heroes discover Gus's attempted garden near the Old Watchtower:
The Garden Site:
- A cleared area where Gus tried to create a flower garden
- Tiny flower seeds scattered around, many accidentally crushed
- Giant-sized gardening tools (made from tree branches) that are too big for delicate work
- Evidence of Gus trying to water plants with a bucket meant for giant use (flooding the seedlings)
- A few surviving plants growing wild and untended
The Real Problem: Gus loves flowers and wants to tend a garden, but:
- His size makes it impossible to work with normal-sized plants
- His giant fingers can't handle delicate seedlings
- His tools are too large for precision work
- He's been losing sleep trying to figure out how to garden without damaging everything
Step 3: Creating a Giant-Friendly Garden
Heroes realize they need to help Gus create a garden appropriate for his size:
The Solution: Design a garden with giant-appropriate plants and tools
What Heroes Can Do:
- Find Giant Plants: Ranger Dana knows where to find seeds for sunflowers, giant pumpkins, and tall hollyhocks that Gus can actually see and tend
- Create Proper Tools: Work with Gareth Ironheart to forge giant-sized but precise gardening tools
- Design the Garden: Plan paths wide enough for Gus to walk without stepping on plants
- Get Community Help: Farmer Mae and other villagers contribute seeds and advice
Step 4: The Garden Project
Gathering Supplies:
- Giant Sunflower Seeds: From Farmer Mae's special collection
- Pumpkin Seeds: That will grow into massive pumpkins Gus can easily tend
- Tree Saplings: That will grow tall enough for Gus to care for properly
- Proper Tools: Gareth Ironheart creates gentle giant-sized tools
Implementation:
- Clear and prepare a proper garden space
- Plant seeds in giant-sized rows with wide paths
- Create markers Gus can easily see
- Set up a giant watering system using a small pond
Step 5: Waking Gus
Once the garden is prepared, heroes can wake Gentle Gus by showing him the solution to his problem:
The Gentle Wake-Up:
- Place some of the giant flowers near where he's sleeping
- Let the fragrance of properly-sized plants reach him
- Have Farmer Mae explain softly how the garden will work
- Show him the giant-sized tools designed just for him
Gus's Reaction:
- He wakes up slowly and sees the giant flowers
- His face lights up with joy when he realizes he can actually tend them
- He's grateful but worried about blocking the path
- He promises to sleep in his proper spot from now on
Resolution and Celebration
Gus's Joy: Gentle Gus is overjoyed to have a garden he can actually tend. He carefully moves off the path, apologizing profusely to the villagers for the inconvenience.
